Car rental in Tilburg for international students

As a student in Tilburg, international students included, you can rent a car through SnappCar if you’re 21 or older, have held an EU or UK driving licence for at least 12 months and live in the Netherlands or Germany. You don’t need a credit card, because you can pay straight from your Dutch banking app. Go-Mez rents out five Toyota Aygos in Tilburg from €35 a day, and two of them are parked a few minutes’ walk from Tilburg Universiteit station.

Who can rent on SnappCar?

Go-Mez is an independent host on SnappCar. Booking, payment and insurance all go through SnappCar, and SnappCar’s current terms always apply. According to SnappCar’s renter requirements, you must (as of September 2026):

be 21 or older;
have held a valid driving licence for at least 12 months;
live in the Netherlands or Germany;
have a bank account in your own name;
be reachable by both email and phone.

Which driving licences are accepted?

Because of agreements with its insurer, SnappCar only accepts licences from a fixed list of countries:

EU countries, except Greece;
the United Kingdom;
Greece, Switzerland and Norway, after a manual check by SnappCar.

If your licence is from anywhere else, such as the US, India or China, you can’t rent, not even with an International Driving Permit alongside it. Tourists who don’t live here are already ruled out by the residence requirement. Also note that all our Aygos are manual. If your licence is restricted to automatics (code 78, CBR page in Dutch), you’re not allowed to drive them.

Verifying your account

Before your first booking, SnappCar verifies your account. There’s a one-off €10 fee, which you get straight back as SnappCar credit (as of September 2026). You pay it straight from your banking app, from a personal account in your own name. The credit is valid for one month, so don’t verify too long before you plan to drive.

Allow extra time if:

your licence was issued in an EU country other than the Netherlands: SnappCar then does a manual check that can take a few days;
you pay from a foreign bank account: that triggers a manual check that takes about 3 working days.

So don’t leave it until the day you need the car.

Renting without a credit card

On SnappCar in the Netherlands you pay straight from your Dutch banking app or with a credit card. Prepaid credit cards are not accepted. So with a Dutch bank account you don’t need a credit card. Two items vary per renter:

Deposit: SnappCar sets the deposit per booking based on your risk profile. With the standard excess it was €250 in September 2026; you see the amount before you confirm, and you can reclaim it from 72 hours after your last trip.
Deductible (own risk): this depends on things like the car’s value and your age. The standard excess is €750 per claim; for €7.95 per day you can reduce it to €250 and skip the deposit (as of September 2026).

Splitting the cost with housemates

An Aygo seats four, so sharing makes a big difference. Here’s an example for the white 2015 Aygo, using SnappCar’s price breakdown (as of September 2026):

Fuel is on top. You get the car with a full tank and return it with the same fuel level. This Aygo averages about 22 km per litre, so 200 km uses roughly 9 litres of petrol.

How to organise it:

One main renter books and pays. Split the cost afterwards, for example with a payment request.
Extra drivers are free. Once the booking is confirmed, invite them by email; they’re insured as soon as they accept.
Only the main renter picks up and returns the car.
One vehicle per account. If you need two cars, a housemate books the second one on their own account.

Two Aygos near Tilburg University

Two of our Aygos are parked on Troelstrastraat in Het Zand, about a 3-minute walk from Tilburg Universiteit station, which is one stop by local train from Tilburg’s main station. The Tilburg University campus on Warandelaan is about 1 km away, a few minutes by bike. If you study at Fontys Campus Stappegoor, it’s roughly 5 km by bike.

Both are five-door cars with air conditioning, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. They have SnappCar Keyless, so you unlock them with the app, no meeting needed. These two must stay in the Netherlands.

What students rent a car for

Moving into your room

An Aygo is fine for a few boxes and your duvet, but a bed or wardrobe won’t fit. That’s what our Ford Transit van is for: 11.1 m³ of cargo space, three seats, €59 a day and roughly €79–94 a day all-in (as of September 2026).

To be upfront: the van isn’t in Tilburg. It’s in Sprundel (Rucphen municipality), about 45 km and 40 minutes’ drive from Tilburg. The nearest station is Etten-Leur, about 6 km away. You arrange a time with Jorge to collect the key, and you return the van to Sprundel. The round trip to Sprundel is about 90 km, which still leaves room for local runs within the 200 free km a day.

Tilburg has a zero-emission zone for vans inside its ring roads. According to Op weg naar ZES (in Dutch), a Euro 6 van registered before 2025, like this Transit, may enter until 1 January 2028, and the government plans to extend this to 1 January 2029 (as of September 2026). Check before you drive.

Picking up furniture outside Tilburg

Heading to a furniture store in Breda or in Son en Breugel (near Eindhoven)? Both are about 35 km each way from Troelstrastraat. A return trip fits easily within your free kilometres.

A day out or a weekend away

The fairy-tale theme park in Kaatsheuvel is about 13 km away.
A trip to Scheveningen beach and back is roughly 220 km, just over the 200 free km. Expect a few euros extra (€0.15 or €0.25 per km, plus SnappCar’s 10% commission), or book two days.
Driving home to Germany or Belgium? That’s only allowed in the blue 2010 Aygo or the white 2014 one, with European roadside cover (€6.50 a day, as of September 2026). Note that the air conditioning in the white 2014 car currently doesn’t work, and for the blue 2010 car you arrange a time to collect the key.

Tips

Book early around the start of the academic year. Tilburg University’s introduction week ran from 17 to 21 August in 2026. If you’re moving around then, book well ahead: we have one van. All our vehicles have SnappCar’s early-booking discount switched on.
Stay within your free kilometres. Extra kilometres are settled after your trip.
Leave a margin when returning. Returning late costs €20 an hour (up to €250) and you’re not insured after the end time (as of September 2026). Extend in the app in good time.
Cancel more than 24 hours before the start and the rental is fully refunded. After that, there’s no refund.
Always book through SnappCar. Deals outside the platform aren’t allowed, and you wouldn’t be insured.
